General Information

Cielo Vista Neighborhood Association Mission

Leadership Advocacy; to build resources and community relationships which will enhance quality of life through neighborhood improvements with long-term sustainability.

Organizational Purpose

The purpose of our neighborhood association is to enhance the Association’s area to promote a better neighborhood and community through group action, so that the quality of life in the area shall be in keeping with the social, environmental, cultural, and historic needs and interests of the residents and members.

Membership Meetings

CVNA meetings are held every 2nd Thursday of the month at 6 pm in the WH Burges high school library at 7800 Edgemere Blvd.  The scheduled meetings for 2019 will be on January 10th, February 7th, March 7th, April 11th, May 9th,  June 13th, July 11th, August 8th, September 12th, October 10th, November 7th,  Christmas Party in lieu of December meeting.

A new neighborhood Association, Valley View/Crest Hill, has formed within the original boundaries of the CVNA.  Click on the boundary map below to view.  Valley View boundaries overlap with CVNA’s original boundaries:

  • South – Interstate 10
  • East – McRae Blvd
  • North – Fort Bliss, EP International Airport, Montana
  • West – Geronimo

 

Board Members

 

Mike Adjemian, President

Michael Adjemian born in Reno, Nevada. Now calls El Paso home. He has over 30 years of extensive knowledge and understanding of manufacturing facilities throughout Mexico as well as the Southwestern U.S. He attended U.T.E.P. as well as U.A.CH in Chihuahua City, majoring in Marketing.

 

He is actively involved in his community. He has held the position of Neighborhood Watch Block Captain for over 7 years. He has been an active, member of the El Paso Police Department’s Pebble Hills Regional Command Center’s Citizens Advisory Board for 5 years. He participates and contributes to other non-profit organizations, such as the Special Olympics past assistant golf coach, annual participant in the Making Strides of El Paso against Breast Cancer annual walks to include March of Dimes walk as well.

 

Michael is always pro - actively looking for ideas and suggestions to improve the quality of life for his neighbors, community and his family. Michael’s qualities include a high level of enthusiasm and initiative.

 

Michael is married to his wife Bertha of 33 years; they have 1 daughter Michelle, who has attended Bonham, MacArthur, and Graduating from Burges in 2002. They have been residents of this community for over 25 years.

 

Elected as a Neighborhood Coalition Eastside Representative, responsible for 10 Neighborhood Associations spanning the Eastside of El Paso. this 2-year term ends on October 2018.

 

Selected in the summer of 2017 by the City’s Neighborhood Services Division, to participate in a Neighborhood Association support task force consisting of 8 members to work closely with the new emerging Neighborhood Associations, along with the at risk of dissolution Neighborhood Associations.

 

Bertha Adjemain, 1st Vice-President

I am a native El Pasoan, a graduate of Jefferson High School. I have worked in women’s apparel retail as a store manager for over 40 years. Recently retired, stay at home mother and wife, my husband and I recently celebrated our 36 wedding anniversary this year, 2017. I enjoy serving my community thru the Cielo Vista Neighborhood Association.


Armando Medina, 2nd Vice-President

Armando Medina, born in  South side El Paso, raised near/attended Jefferson H.S., Enlisted in the U.S. Navy (Submarine force), Retired 21yrs. Later.

Attended/Graduated from Police Academy (Kitsap/King county Wa.), Serve 5yrs. security officer at Ft. Bliss (Supervisor), Certified/worked as CNA 7yrs while attending Nursing School(3 yrs), completed requirements for Bachelors degree in BA in Management, re-certified in Education/Special Education Teacher (Burges H.S.),Retired with 12yrs credit.

Businessman (Own/manage 4 Apartments), Membership chair for Jefferson's Alumni, Committee member for Jefferson "Back to the Mardi Gras", committee member of Civilian Advisory Board for PH PD., and now 1st vice president of the Cielo Vista Neighborhood  Association, completely retired but active!

 

Josh Herrera, 3rd Vice-President 

Josh Herrera was born and raised in El Paso. He is a proud graduate of Cathedral High School and UTEP. After graduating from UTEP he pursued his law degree from the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. Josh began his legal career with the District Attorney's Office in El Paso County, and later began his own law firm.

Josh is married to Paulina and together they have two daughters. Paulina works at Exigo Architecture Firm in downtown El Paso. Together, they spend as much time as they can enjoying the great opportunities that the Cielo Vista Neighborhood provides for families.

From the central location to the city, the various parks in walking distance, the excellent schools in the area, and the shops and restaurants nearby, we are proud to be party of Cielo Vista. We enjoy continuing to work closely with the neighborhood association and our neighbors to continue to provide the best living in El Paso!"


Terri Flickinger, Primary Secretary

I was born and raised in El Paso. I attended Bonham, MacArthur, and Burges. After graduating in 1973, I attended NMSU where I earned a BA in History and an MA in History. I began teaching High School in Las Cruces in 1980 until we moved back to El Paso in 1991. I taught at Ysleta High, Montwood High, and Mission Early College until my retirement from public school in 2013. I also taught as an adjunct History professor at EPCC for 25 years. I have been married to my husband John for 43 years. He is an English instructor and we taught together at Montwood and EPCC. We are the proud parents of 2 boys who graduated from Montwood, ASU, Texas State, and UTEP. They are both instructors today. We have 2 grandsons, Morgan and McCrae, who are in elementary school in Austin. We were fortunate to find a home in Cielo Vista in 2015 and are enjoying our retirement in this extraordinary neighborhood. I hold several offices in my church, St. Paul's UMC on Edgemere, and I hope to be a more active part of CVNA. My passions are education, travel, and family.

 

Genevieve Harkins, Backup Secretary

I, Genny Harkins, am your CVNA  secretary.  As an Army brat and wife I was without roots until my husband retired in 1967 and we bought our home in Cielo Vista.  My four children are Burges graduates and three of them have degrees from UTEP.  I retired from EPISD after teaching for 28 years.  I then tutored at Cielo Vista Elementary School for ten more years. I am active in CVNA because I believe it is our duty to provide the best neighborhood  possible for the welfare of our children and to improve the quality of life for all of our residents.

 
Virginia Abilez, Parliamentarian

Born in El Paso, grew up in El Barrio del DIABLO, between the Dudley baseball field and the Isla De Cordova. Attended Zavala School, Graduated from Jefferson High School. I attended International Business School and graduated from UTEP with a degree in Education. I started working for the Bracero Program. After 2 years transferred to White Sands Missile Range then five years later transferred to the Ft. Bliss High Altitude Dept.  Following 15 years of service I quit to stay home with my kids.  I was a volunteer for the PTA, the Boys Scouts and Girl Scouts, after ten years I went back to work at William Beaumont Army Hospital (Blood Bank) then 2 years later transferred to the Air Defense School where I retired after 15 years of service as a military instructor.  After retirement I volunteered for CASA, church, PTA and the Wendy Davis Campaign.  I am now a proud volunteer for the Cielo Vista Neighborhood Association. 

 

Estela Provencio, Treasurer 

I am Estela Provencio, a retired educator.  I have been blessed with 7 children and 7 grandchildren.  I am a graduate of Fr. Yermo High School and UTEP.  I hold a B.S. in Education and a Masters in Bilingual Education.  I spent 35 years teaching Math, Spanish and ESL at Ysleta ISD, Socorro ISD, and Gadsden ISD.  Additionally, I taught Remedial Math and English as a Second Language at EPCC.   While at Gadsden, I also served as a Math Mentor to elementary school teachers.

In my spare time, I love to crochet, sew blankets, listen to music, and decipher Cryptoquotes.  In spite of the fact that my family keeps me very busy, I try to make time to serve my community. I have lived in the Cielo Vista area for 42 years.  I look forward to serving as CVNA’s next treasurer.
